How to renew your driveway

In the past, when a concrete driveway or patio started to show serious signs of aging, the options for renovating them were uncomfortable. Today there are more practical alternatives.
Driveways are usually tested during heavy winters they are totally exposed to, and by the entrance and exit of vehicles, bicycles, motorcycles, and others. Stains and cracks, depressions and flaking are all common problems with concrete driveways, and they only get worse over time. Therefore, it is important that you take action now, to avoid further damage in the future and to restore the appearance of your home.

At South Atlantic Masonry and Concrete Contractor located in Atlanta and Florida, we give you four easy ways to renew your concrete driveway:

1. Inspect your driveway:

After winter is over, you should inspect your driveway for damage. Wherever ice has accumulated during the cold months, there is a possibility that you will discover cracked concrete. Also, if any soil beneath the driveway shifted due to freeze-thaw cycles, dips or depressions may have appeared on the surface of the driveway. Finally, if you have made a habit of applying a de-icer to the driveway, its ammonium may have caused at least parts of the concrete to crumble or peel.

2. Deep cleaning:

Next, no matter the condition of your walkway give it a thorough cleaning. Use a strong cleaning product to remove all the crud from your walkway, but if you are dealing with stained or heavily soiled concrete, we advise you to use a pressure hose, in addition, you can use a rigid bristle brush to scrub while you spray water for a maximum cleaning.

3. Damage repair:

Now is the time to repair any damage your walkway has suffered. If you see cracks when examining the concrete surface, do not delay fixing them. Seemingly benign cracks, if ignored, can end up devastating a concrete driveway, forcing the installation to be torn off and replaced. Remember to call a masonry and concrete contractor in Atlanta or Florida to make your repairs and so that once the job is done, cover the driveway with a concrete sealer to protect it from future damage.

4. The surface:

If after all your efforts, the driveway still looks worse for wear, consider calling a concrete and masonry professional to apply a resurfacer to the concrete, as it works to conceal the existing installation under a fresh, all-new concrete layer. If you prefer to do it yourself, keep in mind that the renovation of the walkway can be a project of more than one day and think that to achieve satisfactory results, cracks and crevices must be patched beforehand.
