At South Atlantic Masonry and Concrete Contractor located in Peachtree City, Atlanta, Newnan, Sharpsburg, and Senoia, we want to show you the steps for its construction:

First, you must decide the type of stone you will use for your barbecue.

Then, you must choose the location where you want to build your stone barbecue. It is a good idea if you build it near the kitchen, and it should not be near plants, bushes or fences.

The first layer of large flat stones is placed on the ground and the spaces between the stone and the mortar mix are filled. Other layers are still placed until the structure has the necessary height.

The slab is placed on the outside of the barbecue to give it its final finish.
Then the metal structures of the grill and its supports are placed.

Aging the stone in 4 steps

If you want to age the stone of your walls and chimneys to give an old and rustic appearance, you can replicate the effects of time simulating in a few weeks all the effects of the environment and time on it.

At South Atlantic Masonry and Concrete Contractor located in Peachtree City, Atlanta, Newnan, Sharpsburg, and Senoia, we want to give what you need and the techniques to age stone:

Lemon or vinegar juice, Manure, Compost, Surface soil layer and Water. The amount of each depends on the amount of stone that has to age.

Step 1: Aging with acid
The stone ages because it is exposed to the effects of acid rain. You can get the same effect by applying lemon juice, vinegar, sour milk or any other acid to your new stone. The acid hollows in the stone where the microbes settle, aging the stone. Apply the acid when the stone is dry.

Step 2: Creating a patina
The patina comes from the chemical reactions along with the bacteria found in the stone. Any organic matter that penetrates pits and cracks in the surface of the stone will give the new stone a tarnished appearance. Manure and compost are two good organic materials for aging the stone.

Step 3: Sowing Moss
Moss and lichen grow on the stones. It can give old appearance by achieving moss growth in it. Using garden fertilizers or manure will help strengthen the plants.

Step 4: Effects of the rain
The stone is constantly exposed to rain with wet and dry conditions. Accelerate this process by watering the stone when the weather is dry and let it dry completely before repeating the process many times.

Create an edge for your stone walkway

A stone walkway should not only be postatic but also for safety, especially if there are children or elderly people in the house. But sometimes some designs are lost by existing herbs and flowers. This is why it is necessary to make an edge for the stone walkway. There are several border options to choose from, including the use of metal, plastics and bricks. Installing it is very easy, but it is always better to hire a specialist.

At South Atlantic Masonry and Concrete Contractor located in Peachtree City, Atlanta, Newnan, Sharpsburg, and Senoia, we want to give the steps to create an edge for your stone walkway:

You must first measure the length of the stone walkway to calculate the amount of material you will need, this will also help you estimate the amount of gravel and sand you will place in the trench to level the edge.

Then create an edge trench by digging a trench next to the existing stone walkway. Your trench must be deep enough. If the stone walkway is not straight, follow the curves to dig your trench. It should not be too wide or too narrow. The channel must be just enough to support the bricks to be installed and the cushioning materials to fit. If you find a drain pipe, you can extend the trench at that specific point where the pipe is located to direct the drained water away from the bricks with edges.

When the trench is ready, level the base with the base by placing sand along the trench and make sure the base is the same. Start laying bricks on the side of the trench closest to the edge of the existing stone walkway. Place one brick on top of another. Continue laying more bricks until the bricks are slightly higher (one to two inches) than the stone walkway.
